Habemus Papam

Today in the movie halls across Italy in which also plays our Don Salvatore Miscio

Released today in Italy’s Nanni Moretti’s latest film “Habemus Papam” in competition at the Cannes Film Festival. Among the players also don Salvatore Miscio, our colleague, the Archbishop of Manfredonia seminary rector and head of youth ministry in the diocese Manfredonia-Vieste-San Giovanni Rotondo.

<<It ‘s a very happy story – tells Don Salvatore – that highlights the humanity of the cardinals, not at all careerists. Constant refrain is the need for change, stigmatized by the song “Todo Cambia” interpreted by the late Mercedes Sosa. The pope is played by a sweet Michel Piccoli. His character is humble, embarrassed and overwhelmed by the great responsibility of the new role. As against the altar there is a psychoanalyst (Moretti) proud, convinced you know what you must do.>> The film is inspired by the story of Celestine V, in 1294, abdicated after only four months by the rise to the papacy. <<I – continued Don Salvatore – looks like a delicate way of telling the solitude and the great responsibility of those who occupy an important role in the Church, even in the eyes of the world. The filmmaker in me has shown so much respect and confidence, letting the words speak the homily of the Mass with great freedom. He liked them. The best memory is that it has sought and found Moretti with the biblical passage that best suited. He listened to my thoughts and reasons for choice of text. After that I asked of the homily that we recorded.”
