A torchlight procession to St. Pius

On Thursday, June 30th, the beginning of the many events that converge to the celebrations of the centenary of the arrival of Padre Pio in San Giovanni

On Thursday, June 30, 2011, the entire civil community joins at the Church of Sant ‘Onofrio Anchorite to take part in a torchlight procession dedicated to Padre Pio, a prayer service that marks the beginning of the many cultural events and religious celebrations that converge towards the the centenary of the arrival of Padre Pio in San Giovanni Rotondo (1916-2016). It was the Mayor Louis Pompilio to announce from the stage of Europe’s Square on the occasion of the solemn celebrations in honor of St. John the Baptist, the patron saint of the city. The torch will enter a new stage in the upcoming event on July 28 when we will celebrate Thanksgiving Day, which commemorates the coming of the young Padre Pio in San Giovanni Rotondo in 1916.
