After a big surprise party organized by his friends, on his return home, Donato was accepted by the town of San Giovanni Rotondo and the Mayor Luigi Pompilio. The young man in conversation with the mayor told of those terrible moments lived on the ship and the subsequent emergency evacuation from the same bound. The mayor praised Ricciardi for the great courage and a cool head had those moments of great panic, complimented for having discharged his full duty. Ricciardi later, accompanied by the mayor himself, has given to questions from journalists for a press conference during which he recounted his ordeal aboard the Concordia.
