Water in common

From spring water to the streets at 5 cents per liter

“Water in the City …” is the motto chosen by the municipality of San Giovanni Rotondo to present the so-called Water House, the new project consisting of a self-service distributor of mineral water to be carried out in the Square Mother Teresa of Calcutta.

On 7 December, the city council approved the resolution for the construction of the first self-service distributor of water, under the ‘Environment Watch “is a system developed by the company Vith Group SpA that draws the water from the water supply and, through a sophisticated system of filters, ready for bottling and to preserve the natural and the amount of mineral salts. At a cost of 5 cents per liter, the citizens of San Giovanni Rotondo will be able to obtain supplies of water of high quality, no added chlorine, but, above all, that will be transported in glass bottles, with a cost savings for users and benefit the environment.

“A particular benefit is the environment – has confirmed the young Claudio Mischitelli Councillor for Public Works – with this system, in fact, significantly restrict the consumption of plastic bottles. Considering that the average weight of these is about 34 grams and that the fountain is capable of delivering 36 000 liters of water per month, it is estimated that in one year you will save more than tens of tons of plastic.”
